SCOREKEEPER/TIMEKEEPER- FAMILY PARTICIPATION IS MANDATORY, this is not included in your volunteer obligations. During games parents will be expected to share the responsibility of score keeping and time keeping. One parent from each team will volunteer each game. The two parents will agree on which role they will complete that game. Get there early if you really want one of the roles over the other.
-The scorekeeper will record the game on the game sheet throughout the game. The refs will help guide you and the team manager can usually give you a rundown ahead of time. There are videos on CMBA’s website as well for reference. There are minor changes pending the event from CMBA’s paper copies but you can use this as a training tool for any tournament or event.
-The timekeeper will keep track of the time and score on the game clock.
-If there is a shot clock involved there will need to be an additional volunteer to run it.
Board Member: As an active member of the board, you will be expected to attend 4 to 6 meetings per year and assist in carrying our board functions. Refer to the document "FAQs for Potential Board Members" on the website for more information.
Committee Chairs: As an active committee chair you will be expected to organize a small group of volunteers to manage the specific needs of such committee and make decisions/function such committee. The committee only needs to meet as required and can either complete or delegate the tasks accompanied with the outcomes of the committee's function. The president of CoMBA sits on all active committee's and is readily available to help.
List of Chairs
Coordinators: The chair of a committee will be looking for active coordinators to help on their committee. As an active coordinator you will sit on a committee to assist in decision making but focus mainly on spearheading the connection of such committee to the members of the organization. These roles can be as simple as equipment coordinator who is only active at the beginning and end of the season to help organize and hand out the equipment from the trailer. This would take 1-2 days twice per year flexible to the coordinators schedule. Other coordinators such as coach coordinators would be more active throughout the season to help assist coaches in ensuring consistency across the organization.
Gym Monitor: Our gym monitors are an important part of making sure that CoMBA runs safely and effectively at all times and ensure that the spectators associated with their team behave in a manner consistent with the CoMBA handbook codes of conduct and the participation agreements are signed by all players, coaches and spectators.
Gym Monitor Duties:
Note that the gym monitor can join the other parents on the sidelines (i.e. they need not "stand apart" or stay in a specific spot during the game. They would only "need to take action" in the event one of the spectators from our team demonstrates unsportsmanlike conduct).
Casino Worker: Cochrane Minor Basketball and Calgary Minor Basketball will require volunteers for casinos in the specific years when a casino is held. NOTE: For Cochrane Minor Basketball there are 30 volunteers required and for Calgary Minor Basketball there are 2 volunteers required. The membership will be notified ahead of time when volunteers will be required.
Helpers at Provincials: Provincials are held in the Calgary area from time to time and when this happens we will need volunteers to step up and help. The membership will be notified ahead of time when volunteers will be required.
Evaluations - Player Check In: Assist with player check in at player evaluations at the start of the season.
Coaches/Co-Coaches/Assistant Coaches: Teach players on a team to improve their basketball skills and play as a team. CMBA requires a minimum of 2 coaches per team. At least two coaches are required to attend each practice and be on the bench for games (or find a temporary substitute coach if two coaches are unable to attend). Coaches are encouraged to attend a coaching clinic and to abide by the coaches' code of conduct. It is mandatory for every coach to provide a valid Vulnerable sector check to attend practices and games (vulnerable sector checks are valid for 3 years).
Team Manager: Responsible for all administrative requirements of the team. This will include communicating information to parents and coaches and ensuring schedules and team lists are circulated. Manage the coach requirements by ensuring the Coaches Code of Conduct and a valid Vulnerable sector check has been completed by each coach. Maintain the team website and Team RAMP. Attend an information/training session in September. Further information is available under the Team Managers FAQ tab.
Team Uniform Manager: Hands out and collects back the uniforms from each player. Tracks the individual and ensures the tracking is passed onto the Equipment Chair at the end of the season. All uniforms will need to be washed.
Team Equipment Manager: Responsible for picking up the equipment bag from and returning it to the League Equipment Manager. Bags are to be returned at the end of the season with all balls and other equipment. Bags must be cleaned out of all garbage. You will also be required to transport the bag to/from practices/games if the coach prefers this. If you require additional first aid supplies and/or equipment, you will be responsible for contacting the League Equipment Manager for this.
Team Building Coordinator: Responsible for organizing team building and socializing activities throughout the year and a year-end party for the team
Team Media Coordinator: Plays the key role in documenting the teams journey throughout the season. This volunteer will manage team-related social media posts, organize or capture photos and videos at games and events, and help create engaging content for players, families and fans.
