Eagles Tryout Philosophy and Policy

At Eagles Club Basketball we go beyond just sports, we are building a culture of inclusivity and personal growth. Our program caters to players looking to propel their game to the next level.  Our philosophy lies in the continuous improvement of individual skills, both defensively and offensively, while instilling a strong team-first mentality. By encouraging teamwork and camaraderie, we aim to prepare our athletes for success in basketball and beyond.

With the philosophy above in mind it is the policy of Eagles Club Basketball to ensure best practice in developing the most competitive teams while maintaining opportunity for all members.  For that purpose the Eagles have outlined this fair, transparent, and consistent process for evaluating and selecting players for the Eagles Competitive Club Basketball Teams.

  • Eligibility
    • Players must be within the age group or grade level designated for the team.
    • All participants must complete the registration form and submit any required documentation (e.g., waiver, medical clearance) prior to tryouts.
    • A tryout fee (if applicable) must be paid before participating.
  • Tryout Schedule
    • Tryouts will be held annually before each competitive season.  Please see the specific program and team for accurate information.
    • Dates, times, and locations will be publicly announced at least 3 weeks in advance via official club communication channels.
    • Each team will have a min amount of sessions conducted to ensure comprehensive evaluation.  The Eagles Chair will determine the time necessary pending the amount of players and their age.
  • Evaluation Criteria
    • Players will be evaluated based on:
      • Skill Level: Ball handling, shooting, passing, defense, and basketball IQ.
      • Athleticism: Speed, agility, endurance, strength, and vertical leap.
      • Coachability: Attitude, listening skills, responsiveness to feedback.
      • Team Play: Communication, unselfishness, and understanding of team dynamics.
      • Work Ethic: Hustle, focus, and effort during drills and scrimmages.
      • Team synergy, cohesion, and chemistry
  • Evaluators
    • Tryouts will be conducted and evaluated by the club’s coaching staff and may include impartial external evaluators.
    • No parent of a tryout participant may evaluate that player’s group.  Parents are strictly prohibited even if they are a coach.
  • Selection Process
    • Players will be notified of selection within one week of the final tryout session.
    • Teams will be formed based on skill level, team needs, and available roster spots.  Ideal teams will be between 10-12 players but the final determination for player count will be made based on skill and chemistry.
    • Players may be placed on an “alternate” or “developmental” list for future consideration if they are not chosen.  The Eagles will ensure to do their very best to find suitable opportunities for players looking to develop their skills so they can have a better opportunity in the next phase of tryouts.
  • Post-Tryout Communication
    • Players will receive an official email regarding their status.  A player will be given 4 hours to accept the position on the team.
    • Individual feedback will be provided upon request to promote growth and development.
  • Appeals
    • There will be no formal appeal process for selection decisions.
    • However, feedback meetings can be requested for clarification and future improvement.
  • Code of Conduct
    • All participants and parents are expected to behave respectfully and uphold the club's standards of sportsmanship during tryouts.
    • Disruptive or disrespectful behavior may result in disqualification from the tryout process.
  • Confidentiality
    • All tryout evaluations and decisions are confidential and will not be publicly discussed.
